They’re here.

Poltergeist is a supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper. Steven Spielberg wrote and produced the film, but a clause in his contract prevented him from directing another movie while he made E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Therefore, Hooper was selected to direct based upon his work on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It is the first and most successful entry in the Poltergeist film series. Set in a California suburb, the plot focuses on a family whose home is invaded by malevolent ghosts that abduct the family’s younger daughter.

The film was a major critical and commercial success, achieving in being the eighth-highest-grossing film of 1982. Years since its release, the film has been recognised as a classic within the horror genre and has gained a cult following.

The Freelings are a typical suburban family. Husband Steve sells real estate in their ever expanding subdivision and Diane is a stay at home mom caring for their three kids, Dana, Robbie and little Carol Anne. Strange things being to happen in the house however: cupboard doors open on their own, furniture rearranges itself and chairs go sliding across the kitchen floor. It’s a bit of whimsy at first but soon becomes deadly serious when Carol Anne vanishes into a nether world where, oddly, she can only be communicated with through the white noise on their television. A team of paranormal investigators move into the house but the forces that kidnapped are evil and powerful requiring the services of Tangina, a woman who has dealt with this situation before. They’re back.

Poltergeist II: The Other Side is a supernatural horror film and the second entry in the Poltergeist film series. A sequel to Poltergeist, it features the return of the original family, who are once again confronted by a spirit trying to harm their daughter, Carol Anne. It received mixed reviews from critics and did not gross as much at the box office as its predecessor, although it was still financially successful. It was followed in 1988 by Poltergeist III. It is best remembered for its film trailer, in which Carol Anne says, “They’re baaa-aaack,” a quote that has been referenced endlessly in popular culture ever since.

The Freeling family move in with Diane’s mother in an effort to escape the trauma and aftermath of Carol Anne’s abduction by the Beast. But the Beast is not to be put off so easily and appears in a ghostly apparition as the Reverend Kane, a religious zealot responsible for the deaths of his many followers. His goal is simple – he wants the angelic Carol Anne; but the love of her family and the power of psychic Tangina once again unite, along with an elderly native American, to fight for her life.  IS THERE NO GETTING AWAY FROM IT?

The Freeling family has moved to Phoenix, far away from their Cuesta Verde home, which was the site of so much mayhem. But they are haunted again, by…an angry voice…a swarm of bees…slime-oozing beasts…a walking dead man.

They seek help to free themselves from the unknown terror that haunts them – and find themselves in an adventure no one could ever have dreamed of.

They’re back…again

Poltergeist III is a supernatural horror film and is the third and final entry in the original Poltergeist film series. The film was panned by critics, and was a box office disappointment.

Heather O’Rourke and Zelda Rubinstein were the only original cast members to return. O’Rourke died four months before the film was released and before post-production could be completed. It was dedicated to her memory.

Carol Anne has been sent to live with her Aunt and Uncle in an effort to hide her from the clutches of the ghostly Reverend Kane, but he tracks her down and terrorises her in her relatives’ apartment in a tall glass building. Will he finally achieve his target and capture Carol Anne again, or will Tangina be able, yet again, to thwart him? [IMDb.com]

First broadcast April 21, 1996 (US)
Poltergeist: The Legacy is a horror television series telling the story of the members of a secret society known as the Legacy and their efforts to protect humankind from occult dangers. Despite bearing the Poltergeist name, there is no real connection between the show and the Poltergeist trilogy aside from the title.

Founded in England (where the Ruling House resides in London) in the 6th century, the Legacy was established to collect dangerous and ancient knowledge and artifacts, solve paranormal problems, and protect humanity from supernatural evils. As the Legacy grew, it established branches in other cities and countries. Known as Legacy “Houses,” these are staffed by small teams of specialist members.

Each House is ruled by a “Precept” who wears a signet ring engraved with a distinctive L. Other Houses are mentioned and occasionally seen in the series, but most of the action centres on the San Francisco House.
