40 years ago today, Warren Beatty said Heaven Can Wait
In US cinemas today in 1978, Warren Beatty played quarterback Joe Pendleton in Paramount Pictures’ Heaven Can Wait, the second film adaptation of Harry Segall’s play of the same name, having been preceded by Columbia Pictures’ Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941).
Among Beatty’s co-stars are Julie Christie, and James Mason, who plays Mr Jordan, an angel who plucks Pendleton from an aircrash into Heaven, before he was due to die. Sadly, he cannot return to Earth after the body is cremated but he instead is given the body of a murdered millionaire. Pendleton proceeds to buy an American football team so that he can play quarterback again.
