June 15 in US Cinema

70 years ago today, Abbott & Costello met Frankenstein’s monster, and Dracula, the Wolf Man and the Invisible Man…

1948-Abbott_costello_frankensteinAbbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein is a 1948 American horror comedy film starring the comedy team of Abbott and Costello.

Originally titled The Brain of Frankenstein, the title was changed during filming to appear like less of a straight horror film and capitalise on Abbott and Costello’s marquee value.

The film was re-released theatrically in 1956 on a co-bill with Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff.

In 2001, the United States Library of Congress deemed this film “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.
