“Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs” was UK No 1 single 40 years ago today

Brian_&_Michael-Matchstalk_MenBrian & Michael, previously known as Burke & Jerk, were Brian Burke & Michael Coleman released “Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs (Lowry’s Song) in November 1977 and, on April 8, 1978, it topped the UK Singles Chart for three weeks, achieving Gold certification.

Burke left the duo a couple of weeks after the single’s release, citing “family reasons” and was replaced by Kevin Parrott who continues as “Brian” to this day.

“Back for Good” is a song recorded by British band Take That for their third studio album, Nobody Else (1995). It was written and produced by the lead singer Gary Barlow. The song topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks, and achieved Platinum certification.
